Target Fish
Horse mackerel, mebaru, scorpionfish, and rockfish
Feature
Do not let short bites slip away.
Mebary Hayagake Jig Head is designed to deliver reliable hook-ups in light-game situations where short bites are common. Even when mebaru or horse mackerel only brush the lure lightly, the hook point stands up quickly and turns the touch into a hookset.
The hook uses an outward-facing shape optimized for fast penetration. In addition, the eye is tilted about 20 degrees relative to the hook point, so the moment line tension comes on, force is transmitted efficiently to the point, helping secure hook-ups even on the lightest bites.
The barb uses a micro-barb design that prioritizes penetration. It pierces even the hard upper jaw of mebaru smoothly and holds hooked fish securely.
The simple round-head shape is also highly versatile in use, working with straight retrieve, lift-and-fall, drift, and other methods. It is a jighead suited not only to mebaru fishing, but also to ajing and light-game fishing in general.
Light Surface Range / Small Horse Mackerel / Low Activity
Hook #8 / 0.2g-0.85g
Around harbor lights and calm harbor spots, the light models with a #8 hook are ideal.
In the 0.2g-0.5g range, they produce an ultra-slow fall
that works the upper to mid range naturally.
Going up to 0.85g also makes it easier to hold range in light current.
Even with small horse mackerel or weak inhaling bites,
they help achieve natural hook-ups without adding too much resistance.
Standard Weights for Harbors and Breakwaters
Hook #8 / 1.0g-1.65g
This is the weight range you will use most often around harbors and breakwaters.
1.0g is the standard setup for slowly working the upper to mid range,
while 1.3g-1.65g holds range more steadily even in current.
It is a versatile setup that works well for both ajing and mebaru fishing.
Stronger Current / Bottom Strategy
Hook #6 / 1.0g-3.0g
In faster current or when fish are deeper, the #6-hook models come into their own.
1.0g-1.5g is ideal for mid-range drifting and slow retrieves near the bottom.
At 2.2g-3.0g, you can work confidently through deeper ranges and moving current.
It is also a size you can use with confidence when targeting better horse mackerel and mebaru.
Jighead / Hook Selection Guide
Choose your jighead or hook based on method and target species.
YARIE's light-game lineup gives each model a clear role based on the situation you want to target.
Fast Hookset
Fast Hooking / Short-Bite Response
Hooking-focused models designed to convert light inhaling bites and short bites.
Ajibaku Jig Head is tuned more specifically for ajing,
while Mebary Hayagake is an easy-to-use fast-hooking model
for broader light-game use including mebaru and rockfish.
Swimming
Swimming / Range Control
Models that prioritize swimming performance and range control.
Best when you want to keep the worm swimming steadily
with straight retrieve or drift-focused presentations.
Ami Pattern
Ami Pattern
Dedicated models for situations where fish are feeding on ami.
For fine adjustments to range and weight, including split-shot setups,
the Ajimeba Army Hook is the better choice.
Barbless
Efficiency / Catch and Release
Barbless models that make hook removal easier
and support a high-tempo style of fishing.
Well suited to numbers fishing and catch-and-release situations.
Rockfish
Rockfish / Strength Focus
Strength-focused jigheads equipped with heavy-wire hooks.
Suitable for rockfish such as scorpionfish and grouper,
as well as situations targeting slightly larger fish.
They are also a good fit when you want to get down properly
with heavier weights and work a specific range.
Ajing Power
Power for Better-Size Horse Mackerel
Power-oriented models for targeting quality horse mackerel and large mebaru.
They maintain strength while still responding to the inhale of horse mackerel,
making them suitable for vertical contact and size-focused ajing.
Vertical
Vertical Contact
Dedicated models for vertical fishing from a boat.
Best when you need a reliable hook-up in deeper water or moving current.
